Out Of The Darkness

DARKNESS:  Evilness, lack of understanding or compassion, reference to death or suffering.

Are you still Afraid of the Dark?

As a child I was not keen of the dark.  At the age of 3 I had my first paranormal experience.

While laying in my bed one cold English night something or someone, grabbed hold of my ankle and practically yanked me from my bed.

I was thinking about the dark recently.  How sometimes being in the dark can really make us afraid.  If you think about it dark really means “devoid of light” and it is the light in which this Angel chooses to thrive in.

Things just seem to be different in the dark.  When wandering through ones own home in the dark can sometimes play tricks on the mind until you turn the lights on.  Light has its way of shedding revealing powers.

As kids the dark brings the boogeyman in the closet or the monster under the bed that haunts us nightly.  Sometimes to the point of having to sleep with the lights on.

What exactly we are afraid of when its dark I’m not quite sure, but I know when we feel the fright it is very real.  We are convinced that something is lurking in the shadows waiting to devour us and take our souls to the fiery pit of hell.

We know that fear is a normal part of life for all of us.  It starts when we try something new like going to school for the first time, staring a new job, moving to a new town.  These are all things that we haven’t experienced before, things that are unknown.

Fear of the dark tends to evolve around the time we are old enough to have a sense of imagination but not yet wise enough to distinguish fantasy from reality.  This is how the unknown becomes scary or even terrifying for some.

Television, Books, Movies and Pictures, whether it be a violent news story or our favorite cartoon, images can be intimidating and provoke our already active imaginations stirring up all sorts of ideas in our minds that come back to haunt us as we lay alone in the dark.  We start to misinterpret images and conjure up fears that make our skin crawl and our hearts race.

Irrational Fear:  a type of anxiety disorder, usually defined as a persistent fear of an object or situation in which the sufferer commits to great length to avoid often being recognized as irrational.

The ever-elusive peaceful slumber.

Now I lay me down to sleep

I pray the Lord, my should to keep

If I should die before I wake

I pray the Lord my soul to take

How many times did we kneel by our bedside as children and recite this rhyme?

Did it keep our nightmares away?

It was so long ago for me I honestly can not remember.

Another way to look at darkness is when someone who has crossed our path in one way or another chooses to tread on our very heart and soul until there is almost nothing left of us.

Bully:  use superior strength or influence to intimidate someone.

Bullying by definition:  unwanted aggressive behavior among people, mostly school aged, but not always (**some adults can be just as down right mean) that involves a rear or perceived power imbalance.  The behavior is repeated or has the potential to be repeated over time.

An imbalance of power:  bullies use their power – such as physical strength, access to embarrassing information, or popularity – to control or harm others.  Power imbalances can change over time and in different situations, even if they involve the same people.

Repetition:  Bullying behaviors happen more than once or have the potential to happen more than once.

  • threats
  • rumors
  • physically or verbally attacking someone

The 3 types:

VERBAL:  Saying or writing mean things.  These include teasing, name-calling, inappropriate sexual comments, taunting and threatening to cause harm.

SOCIAL:  Relational bullying, involves hurting someone’s reputation r relationships.  This includes:

  • leaving someone out on purpose
  • telling other people not to be friends with someone
  • spreading rumors
  • embarrassing someone in public

PHYSICAL:  hurting a person’s body or possessions.  This includes:

  • hitting, kicking, punching, spitting, tripping, pushing, taking or breaking someone’s things, making mean or rude gestures.

The Light

The natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible, an expression in someone’s eyes indicating a particular emotion, provide with light; illuminate, make something start burning; ignite.

It has been said that the eyes are windows to the soul.

What do an orgasm, a multiplication problem and a photo of a dead body have in common? Each induces a slight, irrepressible expansion of the pupils in our eyes.  Eyes also betray mental and emotional commotion.

But it is not the eyes that I am going to speak of now.  It is the light.  Not the light that we turn on when walking into a dark room but the light we use to guide each other from the darkness of pain and sorrow.  That light is all of you!

I can testify!!  I have been shown this light by  the truest of the true and light that guides me.

I have learned to let my crimson tears flow with a full purpose

In order to let them ignite my fire within

Once lit this fire burns with intent, the intent is to scribe for myself and my friends

For a little while I held back a bit and let some others step forth with their prose and they did so well.

There are times that the light that guides us also tells us when it is time to take a step back and let others take their moments to open up their chest and bleed with all the life-force of a tsunami.

Some bleed internal tears,  held in for what must have seemed an eternity turning the brain into a kaleidoscope of pain, turmoil, pain and confusion.  Waiting for the final countdown to oblivion.

Some come forth with such beautiful poetry that my soul glided over a mist that was like a cushion floating on air.

Others give us some darkness of other sorts and some gave us moments of laughter.

What I am telling you is Light always shines brightest in darkness.  Not the darkness that sucks you in and shrouds you in doubt and despair but darkness that the lost back into.  For the light, which is you comes forth like an army defending its land.
